Player Unknown's Battlegrounds
PUBG Review
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds(PUBG) developed and published by Bluehole is widely considered to be the first battle royale game. This is true and not true. PUBG was originally a mod for the game Arma 2 and later a mod for Day Z making it the first battle royale, however it is not the first published battle royale game. PUBG quickly became popular after its release.
Realism
The gunplay in PUBG is mainly focused around aim. The high skill cap in aiming leaves most people simply relying on there aim to get the job done leaving little room for outplaying. There are many unique weapons to find whether they’re in supply drops or found on the floor. Each gun is good in its own way leaving preference as the deciding factor in your loadout. Since the guns are balanced it leaves less room for luck in finding good guns giving you more of a fair chance to win. The guns are realistic and mimic their real life counterparts very well. The bullet velocity, the ammo they take, the attachments they use, and the magazine size are accurate representations for the real thing. Damage penetration is a mechanic used in PUBG. basically what damage penetration is, is when you get shot in a part of your body that is blocking a more vulnerable part the bullet will go through the first and hit the more vulnerable part, like what would happen if you actually got shot. If you chose to drive a vehicle you have to be careful because they too have realistic mechanics. While driving a car you can run out of gas or an enemy can shoot out your tires, both will render your car useless. With the addition of the snow map Vikendi you can now realistically see peoples recent footsteps enabling you to track them.
Gameplay
Due to the realism in PUBG it has become a very competitive game making it a hard game to play casually. There are many strategies you can use to play the game and depending on your strategy the game can be very intense, or slow and not intense, but either way however you play the game it is stressful. The gunfights are very tense, especially when you are in the top ten. The feeling of being one of the two last survivors is very stressful. You will hear your heart beating out of your chest waiting to spot the enemy in your line of sight and when you finally win your first game the feeling is extremely rewarding and satisfying. One of the most annoying things in the game is when you spend about 15 minutes getting all of your loot just to get sniped while running up a hill to the next zone, all the way across the map, making you restart the process all over again, but that’s just battle royale for ya.
Final Decision
PUBG is a very fun game and is my favorite battle royale available. However it is not for everyone if you have little patience you will not enjoy this game as it does require you to repeat a process if you die. It is a great game if you love competitive games or like a challenge as this is, in my experience, the most challenging but rewarding battle royale game.
