Superhot VR Review
Superhot Review
Virtual Reality is an incredible way to play video games. Even though VR is still relatively new to the gaming world there are plenty of fantastic games out there that will show you what virtual reality is all about. The game Superhot does exactly that. Superhot originally started as an entry in the 2013 7 day FPS challenge, and sense has become an official game. After Superhot’s success the game became one of the first titles on Playstation VR.
Gameplay
Superhot throws you into a bunch of different levels with one main concept, time only moves when you move. Superhot sends waves of red enemies who try to stab, shoot, or punch you to death. With the mechanics in Superhot VR you truly feel like the star of an action movie. The time only moves when you move aspect makes for great moments whether it is slicing a bullet in half with a knife, or throwing a ninja star through people’s faces you really feel like a boss. Superhot VR is more than a game it also feels like a great exercise. Do not be surprised when you start sweating playing this game. Superhot makes you move, with bullets flying at your face you have to quickly dodge them or you will be restarting the level. Killing the enemies feels very rewarding and satisfying no matter how you kill them as when hit they shatter like they were made of glass, seeing this effect in VR looks incredible. The only thing in the game that i have a problem with is the throwing mechanics. Throwing things is hard to get the hang of, when to the object in your hand is hard to time, often throwing your only option at your feet for it to shatter leaving you defenseless.
Story
The story in Superhot is kind of convoluted and and is easy to miss if you do not pay attention.
The story is actually kind of trippy as Superhot is the name of a VR game in Superhot VR that you test for a friend, but whoever created the game did not want you to be playing it. The creator refers to himself as, “The System,” and he sends you ominous threats and warnings to quit the game, after refusing to quit the game, The System encourages you to play more eventually leading you to The System itself, forcing you to kill your own body and to let your mind live in the core. My thoughts on the story are; it is very intriguing, but hard to follow. I think the story of the game sends a message that: We indulge ourselves in to much media that it starts to control us, leading us astray from reality.
Conclusion
Superhot VR is a very, very fun experience. With very Unique mechanics, and a style different from any other game it stands out. The mechanics can be a little frustrating at times with the throwing, but overall they are smooth and consistent. Even though the story is convoluted it is very entertaining. VR is expensive but if you have it this is a must play title.
