Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Review

Call of Duty Black Ops IIII

Call of Duty is a long running video game franchise with the first game released in October of 2003. There are about fifteen Call of Duty titles in the franchise but we are here to talk about the newest release, Call of Duty Black Ops 4. Developed under Treyarch, Beenox, and Raven Software; and published by Activision. Black Ops 4 was released on October 12th, 2018.

Multiplayer
Call of Duty’s Multiplayer has always been fast paced and frantic, that does not change in Black ops 4. In fact not much at all changes in multiplayer for Call of Duty. Over the past fifteen games there has been very little change in the gameplay of Call of Duty and Black Ops 4 is proof of exactly that. Every time a new Call of Duty is released they add new maps and some new guns, that feel like reskins from previous games. They also try to introduce new mechanics, but none of them are game changing. With Call of Duty Ghosts it was destructive environment, in  Advanced Warfare it was the exo suit and in Black Ops 3 it was the specialists. Black Ops 4 decides to take a step backwards and get rid of the exo suit. So not only is the movement like Black Ops 2 but they also reused the old maps such as; slums from Black Ops 2 and Jungle from Black Ops 1. While it might be nice to see classic maps redone for older players they could have at least put them in DLC and made more new maps for the release.

Zombies
Zombies has always been my favorite part of Call of Duty, but it is also in a similar boat as the multiplayer. The zombies gameplay overall does not change. You still run around and buy doors and try to do all the easter eggs before you inevitably die. One thing I do appreciate Zombies for is that they do have a new story to tell with every new release of the game. The Zombie’s storyline has always been hard to follow in the Call of Duty games. To figure out the story you have to complete the complicated easter eggs, or look it up.

Blackout
The addition of the battle royale game mode Blackout is the only new thing added to the game. However Blackout is not worth the 60 dollars alone. There are many other battle royales that would be a lot cheaper, some even free. Blackout has many unique guns, vehicles, attachments, and equipment to use. Blackout is an in between for Fortnite and PUBG.
Not as realistic as PUBG, but also, not cartoonish like Fortnite. The Blackout map features many points of interest, most being references from past games. Hijacked, Nuketown, Estates, and the zombies map buried are all featured in the Blackout map.

Overall
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is a fun game. Every gamemode the game includes is entertaining.

However if you are not a fan of battle royale and you already own Black Ops 3 then I recommend sticking with that. The multiplayer is nothing unique. We have seen everything this games multiplayer has in previous Call of Duty titles. Zombies may have a new storyline but at its core it is the same game. Not having a campaign may be one of the most disappointing parts. The operations that you can do to discover each of the specialist’s past is not a good replacement for a campaign as i is basically just an online match, but against bots. I would not give Black Ops 4 any more than a 7/10. It is a decent game, but has nothing we have not seen before.
